The Runmaka Vision

Runmaka - the begining and the vision

I've been heavily involved in cricket since I gambled on leaving a job at the age of 19 to see if I could crack it at the professional level with Somerset CCC.

41 years later I'm still trying to crack it!! No longer as a player, but as a coach always seeking ways to help players improve and enjoy the game I have.

I am now involved with runmakavr where we are aiming to take the potential to train anywhere the player wants to. At home, in the garage, hotel rooms etc... All you need is a meta quest headset and to download runmakavr

Like all projects we really are at the beginning, despite four years of hard work to reach this point! Similar to the Ford car in 1903, what might we look like in years to come???

My goal is always from the coaches perspective and 'what am I offering the player'? Runmaka vr intends to provide an environment where the batter can practice any known skill or learn any new skill. Players can be guided by their coaches as the status quo, or learn independently.

Version #1 provides twelve deliveries on a repeated cycle. Future versions will enhance the experience. Coming soon will be a delivery specific option where batters can train as they would against a bowling machine by selecting the delivery they want to repeat against. A key training element being muscle memory repetition.

As we progress we will continually develop the experience to offer both coaches and players tools to enhance the training environment in the same way a coach / player would in a real life situation. The difference being, all training can be done from anywhere the player chooses, with no reliance on booking facilities or the weather.

What I must stress is runmakavr aims to supplement everything already in place. If you can go outside, go outside, if you can access the nets, access the nets. However, how often can't you, so what then?

I genuinely believe VR is a logical progression in supporting the training experience and providing a new opportunity in which to train. Baseball is there already and golf simulators have been active for many years.

Our long term goals are to combine simple / innovation / feedback and enjoyment. Cricket is a complex game and can be learned in many ways. My view as a coach is that if the player is engaged and happy in the process, the end result is likely to be more positive.

I may not have achieved as much as I wanted to as a player when I left Brandon Tool Hire on March 31st 1983, but I have been one of the privileged few to have been involved in something I have loved for the last 41 years.
